Scanned pages from the second edition of Henry Miller's "Tropic of Capricorn" published by Can Yayinevi, one of the biggest publishers frrom Turkey
Can Yayinevi published the Turkish translation of "Tropic of Capricorn" first in 1985 when the publication was found sexually offensive and was banned from distribution and copies were destroyed.
In 1988 40 Publishers from Turkey reprinted "Tropic of Capricorn" without the knowledge of Can Yayinevi and its translator by banning the offensive content with black tape. They included the court decision of 1985 publication in the beginning of the book. In Turkey court decisions are public domain so everybody can publish them. The court decision also includes the removed parts as they had to be stated in the expert witness.
This work is an homage to 40 publishers and Can Yayinevi for their poetic resistance in 1988.
